Does anyone have any thoughts on wing clipping? We have two new chicks, Red Stars. We are looking into what type of coop to build and wing clipping. Our yard is rather small, and I would hate for the hens to be in danger if they fly over a wall.
I RECOMMEND WING CLIPPING. ONE OF OUR PULLETS NEARLY CLEARED OUR 6FT+ FENCE. SHE WOULD HAVE LANDED INTO A YARD OF DOGS! IT'S EASY. IT TOOK US ABOUT 10 MINUTES MAX FOR 2 PULLETS.

It is a real good idea to keep any bird's wings clipped even your sweet little cockatiel that you think would never leave you.
And remember to reclip the wings after the hens molt.

My husband and I did it after watching the video on this website. Piece of cake.
I only had to clip wings when my birds were younger, but after year 1 they bulked out and could not fly as high.
I know it varies among breeds how high chickens can fly, as some are better than others.
