Houston...WE HAVE LIFTOFF!
Submitted by Ninnylou on Tue, 12/29/2009 - 21:30.After the hatching of my six wonderful girls (2 RIR, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Buff Orpingtons) in late July, I had settled my mind that they weren't going to produce eggs until after winter was over. I put a white heat lamp bulb in the lamp and set a timer so it would go on from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. on the off chance it might fool them into laying in the winter. SUCCESS! read more »

Submitted by Chick Corea on Sat, 11/28/2009 - 19:07.Hey mates and mate-ettes!! Im new to this site, my name is Nigel, and yes I am part aborigine!! Heh, knew you all would ask at some point! I raise chicklets (read my profile) around the Sydney area, and I sell em off to locals when they get to old. I just cant stand chickens, they're so hideous, those gobblers and everything, yuck! I love my little chicklets though, they are adorabbbbleee, and they help me to get the ladies to boot (and Im talkin a welly boot here hehehe!), yup, the ladies just love a guy with chicks, ironic huh, yeah I know hehehe! read more »
Noob in the city
Submitted by amanda r on Thu, 11/19/2009 - 19:59.Another newcomer to urban chickening. I live in Brooklyn, NY now but I'm about to move to the SF bay area and hope to raise some chickens there. I'm also planning to rent, not buy (or at least not just yet) a home. So I'm hoping someone (extra points if you know about Oakland and/or Berkeley) has advice for a renter wanting to raise some hens. Should I bother asking/telling the landlord? Are there particular neighborhoods that are especially friendly to chickens? Anything else I should be aware of? read more »
Chicken Names for the Chicken Lover!!
Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 11/18/2009 - 04:06.I have compiled a list of names for your chickens, hens, roosters, and other feathered friends. I have done so, as I feel chickens are deserving of their own unique moniker. Indeed, I believe it is time we stop imposing our white man names upon them and let them get their own WHITE MEAT names!!! With laughs and love, here is the list: Coo Clucks Clan (for your chicken coop?)---Hen Without Hats (another coop?)---Chick James (BITCH!)---Chick Clark (HAPPY NEW YEAR!!)---Chicko Suave (too fruity?)---Chickey Mouse (need I say more?)--- read more »

Submitted by becky3086 on Mon, 11/16/2009 - 00:02.Hi,
We live here in GA on a very small place and I have lots and lots of chickens. All are penned by breed. All of those breeds I am hoping to improve. I sell hatching eggs when I have them. Right now I have these breeds: Polish(buff laced, silver laced, splash, blue and some project birds), Houdan, spitzhauben, Standard EE's, bantam EE's, serama, welsummers. I also have crested ducks and several colors of corturnix quail.

Submitted by Chicken Boo on Tue, 10/27/2009 - 12:04.My name is Jeff. I am a chicken farmer. Never giving it up, but on a hiatus now as this area is a no-go for chickens. Plan on getting back in the swing of things soon. I miss them something fierce.
