Submitted by Matthew.Cravatt on Tue, 04/20/2010 - 00:06.I'm writing you today form Tishomingo, Oklahoma, a small town in the Southern part of the Sooner state. Oddly enough, chickens are not allowed here, I'll see about getting the exact ordinance for you latter. Several of us are working to gather signatures for a petition to allow small stock, especially chickens, back into our community. There has been some rumor of fringe elements sneaking contraband chickens, rabbits and even goat into city limits. We hope our pleas to the city council are heard before cattle are smuggled in. I am the Fryer Abbot at the St. Gallus Convent at Ravenswood. Ravenswood is a garden plot in the residential neighborhood of Richmond, in Southeast Portland (SEPDX), Oregon.
I have six hens: Emma the Red, my RIR and Mutha Souperior; Sugar, my damaged Gingernut Ranger, and former henchhen; Gladys, a black RockStar and rising power in the Convent status; Tina, another black RockStar; Golda, a Gold Laced Wyandotte (and pretty pullet); and Ingrid, the buff EE, the most debased of the Sisters of the Byrd. read more »

Submitted by frugalmama on Tue, 01/26/2010 - 16:22.Hello to you all! My husband and I decided we're finally gonna go for it and do the backyard chicken thing. We bought a PERFECT coop on craigslist last night for $20! It needs some minor repairs, but the price was definitely right! I feel like I still need to learn a little bit more about chickens before we buy our chicks, so I'm here to learn as much as I can.

Meet the Younger Chickens
Submitted by ab on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 03:48.I need help!
I have two nine-month old hens. Recently, our three four-month old chickens met the bigs and moved into the same coop (different addition). We let them all run around the yard during the day. At night the older girls put themselves to bed in the coop, but the young ones huddle in a corner by the house. Is there a way we can teach them to go in the coop?
