No Town Ordinance

I would just let it go and not worry about it.

When I first researched the ordinances for Albuquerque, one person with the city said I could not have chickens, but then someone at another department said I could. Depending on the size of your city, you may just run into the same issue: No one really knows except those who actually take the time to find out, or no one ever calls you back.

If you truly have NO ordinance whatsoever regarding chickens, then just let it be. It sounds like no one is complaining, and you did try to contact the city to find out if what you were doing was illegal. I'd just keep some notes on who you contacted/when, and that no one replied or responded. That way if a problem does arise, you can say that you tried to find out if chicken keeping was legal but no one responded to you.

I think what you're doing is great! I was wondering if you might have some comments or ideas on talking a city government that prohibits chickens (Rio Rancho) into changing their minds.

I have 10 fruit trees and I think chickens would be a marvelous addition to my yard, and would eat the bugs I am having problems controlling by other means. I don't want to dump pesticide in to the environment.

There will be a meeting today in Orlando regarding raising chickens in Orlando and Orange County. Someone's neigbors complained and code enforcement will be fining the family $1,000.00 a day until they get rid of their 4 chickens and 2 ducks.

What came of the Orlando meeting? We live in East Orlando and want to have chickens, anything change?

If you have searched your town code book for key words like poultry, chicken or fowl, then it sounds like the code book does not have any ordinances against them. Just BE SURE...the last thing you want to do is get chickens and then have the town tell you you can't. Like my situation....I asked the code officer if there were any codes about them and she said no, but here I am 4 months later with 12 chickens and now there are codes against them.

If you want to raise farm animals, move to a rural area. Many people move to suburban and urban areas for the environment - which does not include chickens roaming around in the yard.
