Hi Everyone. Saw the link in the new Urban Farms Magazne and thought I would check out the forum! I have 10 chickens, all hens

Banties:

Emily- Barred cochin

Muppet- partrige silkie

Fraggle and Fizzgig: white Silkies

Doozer: Silver laved wyandotte (she's still little, so she's in the banty pen.)

 

Standards:

White Leghorn: Miss Prissy

Buff Orpington: Belle

EE's: Omlete and Biscuit

RIR (got her from the Humane Society): Jade

 

We also have a pen of mixed quail that keep us in eggs. Two dogs, A red and white border collie and a rather round beagle. We have a holland lop bunny named samson. We have three children we homeschool. My hubby works building custom hardwood floors.

 

We have only had our chickens a year with the oldests, but we can't imagine not having them~

LaughingWell, hello there! I'm just north of downtown (near Colorado College) and I'll be getting my first chickens on the 14th or 15th. We used to have ducks a long time ago, but I guess we got lonely for something to scratch big holes in the grass...so here I am. LOL I hope I'll hear from you soon and you can tell me absolutely everything about chickens that I can't read in a book! I'm already wary about foxes and raccoons--I almost ran over a fox with my bike last week--and I've seen some small hawks, so I'm curious about any close encounters you've had with the predator kind. Also, if you know anyone who has a pullet about the same size as the Silver Lace Wyandottes I'll be getting, I would be interested in adding her to our chicken herd. It was so nice to see you on the list of new folks! Viva la pok pok! Carolyn

There's a guy, out east. I want to say his name is Dennis, but I can't remember. He's always got good prices and a variety of birds in various ages. He has ads now and again on craigslist. He ususally lists his location as east colorado springs. Gosh, what is his name, this is gonna drive me batty! Anyhow he's out past Peterson AFB, just a little. I had a baby pen that SOMETHING got into one night, wiped out all my babies. I had feathers all over my whiskey barrel pond, so I think it was a raccoon. Otherwise cats and stray dogs are our worst predators. I have seen the hawks too but with our own dogs around we seem to be left alone by them. I am right smack dab in the middle of town. Off of Bijou and I25, we are very close to each other! within blocks!
