My 5mo. old pullet just ate a mouse!

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have laughed at the idea, that my youngest pullet ate a mouse. All five of my "chicks" were busy foraging in the backyard when I saw a mouse climb over the fence into our yard and the next thing I saw was it be gobbled up by my liitle one...yuk! I am really glad that she has not started laying yet, otherwise I would think twice about consuming her eggs. Has anyone else experienced this joy?

One of my young roosters ate a desert toad,I have always been told that these were poisonous but he is fine,a little dumb though.I have not noticed any change in egg flavor due to diet,so no worries about mouse flavored eggs.I have been raising for a year now,and have been told that meat makes them more aggressive but i have found no back-up for this.chickens will eat anything,it can be kind of yuckey.Good luck with your brood!
One of my girls just ate a mouse this morning. One of the other ones chased her around trying to get this "tasty treat". They have been more aggressive since it started getting cold here, so maybe that explains it. Yuck!
Mouse, lizard, bug and other small critter eating is natural for chickens. . . .if they can catch it, and swallow it, it is food! My girls catch mice regularly, as well as bugs. . . it's all free protien supplement! If you have a safe place to free range your chickens, they will be happier, healthier, and cost less to keep!
My chickens eat termites, Mouse, lizards, bugs.. And they are fine and the eggs are great.. It whould be nice if they eat Ants... I have lots of them but they dont eat them.. LOL...
