Make Chickens legal in Loretto, Minnesota

I recently discovered my flock of 5 laying hens that I've raised for the past 3 months are illegal in my city (Loretto,MN.)  Just for the record, I checked the city code online before obtaining the chicks and it's very unclear.  It states chickens are legal, but apparently that only applies if you are zoned for Agriculture and we are Residential. I was informed I must remove my chickens from the property, which I plan to do this weekend. However, I want to fight this!  I am looking for people in the area who may be able to physically help, handing our flyers to neighbors, raising awareness by speaking with and finding like-minded individuals. 

I was told by our city planner, that in order to go further with this I would need to pay $200 to file a text amendment form, which would guarantee me a "hearing" in front of city council and they would vote on the issue.  I'd need to get a majority yes and then they'd amend the code.  Or I could pay $200 for them to say, sorry but no you cannot have chickens.
