Looking for towns with recently passed ordinances
I live in Cary, NC and am working to get an ordinance passed to allow chickens. We are one year into this process and are making a presentation in August to Town Council asking them to revisit their decision last year not to consider chickens. As part of our reasoning, we are trying to say that there has been a lot of change in the past year - many more cities and towns have passed ordinances recently. (This is certainly true in central NC.)
If anyone can give me names of towns/cities who have passed ordinances allowing chickens in the past year or year and a half, that would be very useful.
Other questions, if anyone has detailed answers (as in numbers, quotes from municipal employees, links to newspaper articles, etc.):
Predators: data showing if there is an increase in predators
Complaints: any information is to number of complaints in a specific location in a given year, also number of complaints relating to dogs. Also type of complaint - loose chicken, smell, other problems.

cal, let me know how it goes...i will be beginning this process soon as well...i just received a complaint from a neighbor and the township has ordered my chickens and one rabbit off my property. I will ask for an exception...but i am not optimistic. I live in north huntingdon township, about 20 miles SE of PGH.
We had our town council meeting and it did not go well. Basically, we were asking for permission to form a formal issue advisory group to come up with an ordinance recommendation. The town came up with an estimate of their costs to support this group and the estimate was $26,000. This kind of shot the issue down completely - at least for now. The final vote was 3 yes to 4 nos so we have no group.

Our next strategy is to wait for another town council election, as well as to speak out in the public speak out section of every town council meeting from now until... We plan to have 2 people per meeting, different people every time, including neighbors, people who have lived here a while, etc.
Our presentation includes lists of cities that allow chickens, lists of cities that have recently allowed chickens, nutrient information, noise comparisons with other city noises, etc. It is quite thorough, with references for all. Maybe some of you will find it useful.

Sarah, I lived in Cary from'59-'73- much smaller town then. I read about Cary and chickens yesterday, article in CaryNews. We have the opposite problem here in San Angelo, Texas. We have no ordinance here now. We are trying to craft one that gets rid of collections of gamecocks, fighting chickens, without disturbing owners of legitimate flocks of regular chickens. I use the term "collection" rather than flock as to gamecocks because they are virtually all roosters and have to be kept in individual pens or they will immediately kill one another. Being so isolated and frustrated in their desire to slaughter one another, they crow competitively, 24/7. What sort of gov't requires $26,000 of its own money to change an ordinance?
