How much space do chickens need?

Hi all,
My boyfriend and his roommates just bought seven chickens from Craigslist. They built the chickens a pen that's about 22 ft long and 9 feet wide. Is this enough space? They seem happy enough, but I can't help but think it might be better to expand the pen a little more.

that pen is plenty big enough for 7 chickens. i got 21 chickens and 2 ducks in a coop with a 16 foot by 32 foot pen and mine really likes it.
