hello all i live n a small but strict town in texas and animal control just walked into are yard chasing a stray dog ,he sees my daughters young pet chickens n a temporary coop still trying to build a bigger one, doesnt ask if we have a permit (wich i didnt kmow we needed) he just rudely stats we can not have them. then states we can purchase a permit before getting the chickens so we have to get rid of the ones we have.it floored me he doesnt even know if i have a permit!another thing that gets me is we have neighbors with horses n a donkey but thats o.k. and its not ok for my daughter to have her lil chics. i am more then willing to purchase a permit but i am not willing to start over with new pet chickens. my neighbors are fine with us keeping them as pets. i am confused on what to do now. well thats why ive started looking for advice and found this great website wich i have been using daily , i would like some advice on how to fight not getting rid of our babies because we have grown quite attached to them, we have moved them into a closed area that cannot be seen just walking through the yard for the time being. we dont want to be illegal owners but we really dont want to lose them either. thanks for any advice that can be given and thanks for this great site.

Next, I wrote a calm, well thought and backed up letter to the editor of our local news paper. It may be worth mentioning that I worked for the paper before being forced to retire early. Knowing many people in town who feel the same as me, I always refer to "us" and never "me" so as not to make this my issue. I've been circulating the petition as best I can, as usual, not a lot of people want to throw their hat in the ring, except to sign and complain to me. That's just how life goes, and I don't sweat it. I am a cancer patent, and getting things done quickly isn't my thing, but I have all the time in the world. I was born here, and don't plan to go anywhere, so I can keep firing letters to the editor, we're up to two now, and a third should go in a couple of weeks, keeping the rate a one per month. To help in the matter, I have joined the local farmers market board, and taken up the president's chair. I truly believe that having chickens is worth fighting city hall. I wish you luck, in your town, and encourage you to lead a movement to modify your city's ordinances concerning chickens.
