Hello
My name is Matt. I live in Socorro and work on an organic/pasture poultry farm. Too bad I found your website 2 days before I move back to Illinois, I would have liked to have gone on the coop-tour.
Anyway, I have grown up with chickens in Illinois and done plenty of chicken shows at the local county fair. I represented the state at the National Poultry Judging competition in Louisville, KY back in 2000. When I moved out of the dorms at college, nine of my friends and I rented a large house. (Yes it was an interesting experience) Without their knowledge I brought some chicks back to school with me from my parents farm. I kept them in my closet. My closet was actually an empty laundry room with a thin wall cutting it in half. This wall did not reach the ceiling. On the opposite side of this wall from my chicks is where we kept the garbage can.
My roommates were from big cities and never had much experience with chickens. I got a good chuckle when I would hear them talking about how the garbage can smelled worse then normal. They finally found out about my birds when I moved them into a pen in the garage. One even said, "Where did you get those?" But by this point they could not object to their presence and the chickens soon became the talk of the parties we had. "Can we see the chickens?!"
I then built a coop out of scrap materials. The coop is in storage, the chickens are back home on the farm waiting for me to return from New Mexico.

These HTML codes don't seem to work in the preview. So here's some linkage of the same two pics.

Great coop pictures!
Were you were working at Pollo Real with Tom? If so, he is a great guy.
Our chickens are also a big hit a parties! Our hen Gloria likes to come inside and get passes around the party. Everyone wants to hold a real live chicken I guess!
Thanks so much for sharing with us.
