We built this run /pen to protect our chickens from the hawks that
frequently circle our yard. We usually lock the hens up in the coop at
night.

I am hearing that hawks generally do not attack full grown hens. So your observation concerned me as we have many hawks in California.
How often are you seeing/hearing of attacks?

None yet. We had a pair swoop down to about a foot off the ground two weeks ago. Going for a snake I think. I have read that they will attack chickens. Also, protection against  owls , which are also prevalent here.
