This site is for the community by the community. There are many ways to participate! By contributing to this site, you maintain all the rights to your own materials, and you will be given credit/listed as the author when appropriate. Urban Chickens will just add your content to the site, or use it within the site.

We are currently looking for:

Ordinance Information If your city is not listed under our ordinance section, do a little research and find out what your chicken ordinances are. Use the Contact form to contribute them to the site- and include links if they are listed online.

Chicken related how to's, fact sheets, and crafts/recipes.These can be sumbitted via email to kt@urbanchickens.org (please include photos/etc when appropriate). chicken butts

  • Some possible topics include:
    • How to incubate eggs
    • How to deal with neighbors that dislike chickens
    • How to introduce a new chicken to your flock
    • How to approach your city council about becoming chicken friendly
    • How to make your own chicken feed
    • "How to" videos related to chickens
    • What snacks are ok to feed chickens
    • Breeds of chickens and their characteristics
    • Chicken/egg recipes
    • Coop decorating tips
    • Sewing curtains for your coop
    • Etc!
Forum moderators for all forum topics Want to be a moderator of a specific forum topic? Subscribe to the forum, and we will post in that forum when a moderator is needed (just waiting a little while until forum traffic builds up)

Member/guest bloggers Do you like writing! If you want to contribute a blog article as a guest/member writer, please contact us. This can be a once in a while contribution, or a weekly (or more) contribution.

  • Possible blog topics include
    • Most anything chicken or backyard food related
    • Summary of a coops tour, chicken class, or chicken event
    • Insight on a current urban chicken news topic
    • A "meet the urban chicken farmer" story/interview
    • Or whatever ideas you might have
    • Just be sure that you follow basic blog writing guidlines and techniques
