Breed recommendations?

I'm ready to aquire my first few chickens and I'm wondering if anyone has strong opinions on which breeds are best to keep? Are there certain breeds that do better in Albuquerque weather? Or that are more productive or quiet? I like to sleep in... Thanks for any advice that you can give...
We have chosen Buff Orpingtons. We have 4 hens and no roosters. We ordered them from Ideal Poultry out of Texas. We choose the orpingtons because they are laid back, docile, friendly, quiet and full feathered for the winters. We didn't want to have to provide heat for the winter in the hen house. Ours are 6 weeks old and already they are out and about in the hen house and run. When you order chicks get more females than you will keep because they are easy to give away, the roosters nobody wants.
Thanks for your help - it's also nice to know where you got them! I have been looking at McMurray Hatchery but they require large orders...
