Urban chicken keeping on Niteline News

Chicken keeper Martha, of the New Green Blog, was featured on Niteline News a few days ago.  She has three hens that live in an Eglu in her Brooklyn backyard. It's a great news piece, and Martha cooks up some fresh eggs that the reporter then proceeds to eat!

The First Flock: Chickens at the White House

The White House has been in the news lately, stirring excitement among gardeners and beekeepers worldwide.   On the first day of spring, the First Lady Michelle Obama broke ground for a 1,100 square foot fruit and vegetable garden on the south lawn of the White House.  She was assisted by a group of local 5th graders, which highlights her interest in food and nutrition education.  Also, it was recently announced that the White House now has it's first bee hive, which will help to pollinate the garden and highlight the important role of pollinators in food production.   read more »

Wow! Who would have thought our urban chicken keeping initiative would be so well received by the public and the press. So far I think we have been featured in 5 articles, and we were even interviewed for the evening news.

Urban chicken keeping legalized in Ft. Collins!

Thanks to the hard work of Dan Brown and other Ft. Collins chicken supporters, residents of the city will now be allowed to keep hens in residential backyards. The city council passed the ordinance 5 to 1, which allows up to 6 hens per household.  Roosters and slaughtering are not permitted, and hens must be housed 15 feet from your property line.  read more »
