Albuquerque Chicken Coop Tour

The first ever Albuquerque Chicken Coop Tour was held last Saturday. The tour consisted of 7 homes/coops open to the general public for viewing. We had over 35 people in attendance and the tour stirred up a lot of interest for people in Albuquerque who have been thinking of keeping chickens. Eggs, Older men, and death

One of our new members, chickenrancher, pointed me to a national news article that appeared here in our local newspaper. Here is the link to the article at ABC News.

This article talks of a study done showing a link between the number of eggs an adult male consumed over a 20 year period and his risk of death. Is this an accurate conclusion from the study? I think the last paragraph in the article answers that question:  read more »

The Slaughter for Sunday Dinner

I hear stories about my great grandmother and how she slaughtered her backyard chickens. She loved her chickens and named them all, but come every Sunday there was always one on the dinner table. The feathers were used to stuff pillows and blankets, and the blood was used in soup. Every part of the chicken was consumed in one way or another, a great model for sustainability.  read more »

Ann Arbor goes pro-chicken, but gives neighbors control

The City of Ann Arbor, Michigan went pro-chicken on Monday with a city council vote of 7 to 4 in favor of allowing chickens. The Ann Arbor News has the full story. More info is also available on the Ann Arbor City Chickens website.
