The first ever Albuquerque Chicken Coop Tour was held last Saturday. The tour consisted of 7 homes/coops open to the general public for viewing. We had over 35 people in attendance and the tour stirred up a lot of interest for people in Albuquerque who have been thinking of keeping chickens. Thanks so much to Jennifer for organizing the tour!
The pictures below were taken at the "pre-tour" which happened the evening before for the 7 participating families (5 of the coops are below). I had so much fun on the pre-tour, and I enjoyed showing my coop to the public. I can't wait until next years tour.

Caution, recent bird flu H5N1 (and other strains) deaths in India, Indoneshia demonstrate this not to be the smartest hobby/lifestyle you can pick.
Urban eco-farming seems like a good idea, however I would say until we can create some vaccines, I would be leave "Foghorn" to Ole MacDonald.

The bird flu scare is over-rated. Just like the swine flu. About 35,000 people die from the basic flu every year in the US. Studies show that the flu was found in commercial flocks. Where have we had any bird flu in private backyard flocks here in the US? None that I know of. Those chickens raised commercially are fed on a diet lacking in natural nutrients, GMO grains and cooped up literally in buildings in crowded conditions that promote disease. The industry doesn't show you the horrors of those farms. Feed your chickens fresh greens and good organic feed and their health is assured with lots of fresh air with free range. Build the immune system to keep good health.
