black spots on combs

Hmmm.... its hard to tell without a picture. It could be blood spots as well, from being pecked. Are the spots on the tips?

I don't have any roosters, but I have plenty of friends with multiple roosters, and they seem to do ok. They will fight a bit, as it is their nature, but just keep an eye on them.

My cockerel had this when i first got him home, he didnt have it before. The black spots went after about 2 weeks. I just put it down to the stress of him moving house!!

It could be from frostbite as those temperatures are cold enough for it. Just keep an eye on them and let us know if they get better. Frost damage can take a couple of weeks to heal.

As far as the fighting goes, roosters will fight each other to go for a ride!

If it's very cold its probably frostbite. Keep an eye on them because if it gets bad it looks painful. I breed old English games so they are dubbed at one year old but when they are young if it gets too cold some of them start to get it seems to start on the parts that are exposed while they sleep. Like the back of the comb,and the tips.

This happened to my rooster too, earlier this winter. It was the first time he was exposed to the cold temperatures. I assumed it was frostbite! After a week or so, his comb curled and became discolored. I was told to use vaseline to coat their combs with. We do this when we are expecting a cold spurt and when the first black spots appeared. It has helped! The original spots have disappeared and the vaseline has kept new ones from appearing. His comb is healed and regrowth is appearing!! Hooray for BOB!!!!!! Roos will fight a little with each other over the hens. These marks will be more like scratches and resemble scabs. I hope this information helps! Krista
